HOST FAMILY LETTER

HOST FAMILY LETTER

Dear Host Family,

First, I would like to thank you very much for thinking about choosing me to be a part of your family. My name is Sandra. I am 20 years old and I live in the south of Poland. My hometown is located in a city called Bytom. I live here with my parents and an older brother who is 24 years old. Although I am an animal lover, we do not have any animals right now. It has been a great dream of mine to live and work in a foreign country. I find the Au Pair Program as a great opportunity to fulfill such a desire that is why I hope to become your family member soon!

I would like to tell you a little about myself and my family.
My father – Jaroslaw – is a sales representative for a large company that sells products for heat insulation of buildings and works with clients from across the Poland as well as from central Europe. He works during weekends at home and during the week he leaves for a few days to go to other countries. My wonderful mother – Jolanta – has been working for ten years in the same workplace in a grocery store very close to my house. My brother – Michal – works with my father in one company. Since I was a kid, I have always loved music – especially singing. I listen to every kind of music, my brother makes fun of the fact that I know every lyric to every popular song on the radio. I sing in the car when I clean or cook. After so many years, I tend to think now that I am actually good at it. I also love photography, I love taking pictures of everything - friends, family, animals, and also kids. This is how I save my memories and I love it! My next big hobby is traveling. In the past, I traveled alone or with friends to new places like Italy, Sweden, Egypt. I love to get to know new cultures and people from all over the world. I worked a lot abroad, so I am definitely very comfortable with being separated from my family for an extended period of time. Traveling abroad taught me how to be more confident and responsible. I love also swimming and I would like to learn how to play piano in the future.

Now, I will describe my childcare experience. Spending time with children is really important to me. I think we can learn a lot from kids especially how to become happy out of little daily situations. They are honest and their smile fulfills my heart. I really enjoy spending time with children and be their friend. I believe in providing a loving but disciplined environment for the children. Teaching them good manners while having a good time. It is important to be consequent and consistent with what you expect from them.
My first job as a nanny started in April 2011. Friends of my mother once came to our house and told her that they needed care for her daughter, so I said yes, a year later my employer became pregnant – over the years I had two little girls to care for - Patrycja, who was at that time 5 years old and Weronika who was only 1 when I started looking after the girls. I spent a plenty of time with them. We were going to the local swimming pool, learning English, doing a lot of sports, playing board games and doing many outdoor activities.
Also, my another friend has a son so I helped her as well. Her son’s name is Dominik and he was 5 years old when I looked after him. I was taking care of him after my school and on weekends. We spent much time outside actively, so Dominik was always well entertained and occupied with all activities I prepared for him. Doing sports with children is the best way to get to know them, have a lot of fun and bring a great atmosphere and spirit while looking after them. I usually help his mom during the day. I like to read to him during play time, help out with his meals and do laundry.
I started working in Egypt in 2016 and I stayed there for almost one year. I was an animator in a hotel called Sentido Mamlouk Palace Resort in Hurghada. My responsibilities included taking care of children too. Every evening, I did mini disco party for children (dancing and having fun with them) I was playing in a different type of games with children, we were talking a lot and I really loved this job. During the day I created interesting games on the beach or by the pool. That time was amazing because I met a lot of new people from all over the world and I got very good experience for rest of my life.

I would like to be an au pair because I have a lot of childcare experience and - what is the most important - I really enjoy looking after kids. During childcare, I always have a feeling that kids like me too! Being an au pair in the United States has been my big dream for quite a long time now. American culture has always fascinated me, history, songs, even during learning English I was really interested in learning the American accent. My friend told me about the Au Pair Program in the US and I realized that this is what I would like to do. It is such a big chance for young people to get to know your culture and habits, to compare with my experiences from traveling abroad and teach you something about my country. It would be great to see how the Thanksgiving looks like or see fireworks during Independence Day. It is amazing and fascinating how big and varied the country is! The opportunity to stay for a one year with an American family is also a great possibility to improve my knowledge about the country, practice English language and get more experience working with children. I hope that I am the right person to take care of your children and become a member of your family and I am looking forward to hearing from you soon!

Your Faithfully,
Sandra
